Reading at the Fingertips of Children in Wenzhou Special Education School in the Opening Season

The students are writing Braille on typewriters.
Their textbooks are much thicker than those of ordinary school students.

The children smiled happily when they received the "love" moon cake.

Wenzhou Network September 4 th (Reporter Jin Jing Pan Yongzhen) When school started, the sound of reading rang out again in the major campuses in the city. However, for some blind children, it takes several times or even dozens of times more effort than normal people to carry their schoolbags and walk into the campus.

Do these "special" students have any new wishes in the new semester? On September 3rd, the third day of the opening of the Qiming Department of Wenzhou Special Education School, Wenzhou Net reporter paid a visit to the school, and joined forces with Cangnan Qiaodongmen Food Co., Ltd. to send nearly 100 "love" moon cakes to the children, during which they felt full of positive energy.

Keyword 1: Braille which is several times thicker than ordinary textbooks.

"There are nearly 80 students in the Qiming Department of our school, from grade one to grade eight, which are mainly divided into two categories, one is low-vision students and the other is completely blind students." Walking on a quiet campus, Mr. Lin, who has been teaching in the Qiming Department of Wenzhou Special Education School for 4 years, told reporters. Like ordinary schools, the blind children in Qiming Department have physical education, music and other courses besides Chinese, mathematics, history and geography.

"When I was a child, I often fell to the window and daydreamed — — What’s over there … …” As soon as I approached the teaching building of Qiming Department, there was a loud reading sound in my ear. Surprisingly, these emotional voices actually came from that group of children who could not see the light.

"Although they can’t see, they are actually very smart and eloquent." Teacher Lin said, taking the reporter into the classroom. In the classroom, the head teacher is leading the children to read aloud. And these blind children, while touching the textbooks in their hands, are immersed in poetry and read aloud affectionately. At the children’s hand is a pile of tired textbooks.

"The content of their textbooks is the same as that of ordinary schools, but the form of words is different. Braille has no glyphs, and it forms pinyin spelling through the change of six points." Teacher Lin said. It is precisely because of the particularity of Braille that each of their textbooks is made of kraft paper, and it is four or five times thicker than ordinary textbooks.

Besides books, there is a typewriter and a clipboard on each desk, which is their writing tool. In addition, because Braille is a text perceived by touching bumps, the order of Braille writing is also special, that is, it is written backwards and forwards, that is, from right to left. Only in this way can we ensure that we read from left to right, because we have to tie some dots from the back of the paper and then touch it from the front.

Xiao Zhu, who lives in Lucheng District, is a student of Qiming Department of Wenzhou Special Education School. Talking about the wish of the new semester, he told reporters that he hopes to improve his math scores in the new semester. "I have been studying here for four years, and I have made many good friends, but my math scores are still not ideal."

Keyword 2: Help children read textbooks clearlyvisual aid, typoscope, visual acuity aid

Except for the different textbooks, in the classrooms of Wenzhou Special Education School, every desk here is two to three times larger than that in ordinary schools. Many desks have computer monitors and an object similar to a desk lamp.

Teacher Lin turned on this "desk lamp" and told reporters that this is a "visual aid", which plays a similar role as a "projector". All pictures taken under the visual aid will be enlarged and displayed on the computer screen. At the same time, the probe head of the visual aid can rotate 365 degrees without dead angle, which is convenient for children with low vision to see everything from different angles.

In addition to good cultural classes, in special education schools, teachers always actively guide children to carry out more manual activities, origami cranes, stars and flowers, which are already a piece of cake for them. In addition, the school has specially set up courses such as massage, so that children can master a survival skill before leaving school.

"But now, there are more and more blind children. After finishing their junior and senior high school studies, they continue to study and try to enter the university. In a sense, their inner world is stronger than that of normal children." The relevant responsible teacher of the school told the reporter.

Xiao Cai is a low-sighted student in Qiming Department of State Special Education School. She has been studying here for six years. Referring to his life here, he said happily that the school has set up many skills courses, and he has been able to master massage and other skills skillfully.

Keyword 3: The sweetest and most delicious blessing of Mid-Autumn Festival

On the afternoon of the same day, Wenzhou Net also held a Mid-Autumn Festival love offering activity in conjunction with Cangnan Qiaopier Gate Food Co., Ltd., bringing nearly 100 "love" moon cakes to the children of Qiming Department of Wenzhou Special Education School, giving the sweetest and most delicious wishes for the Mid-Autumn Festival.

At the activity site, the children held up the "love" moon cakes in their hands, and their faces were full of joy. In order to express his gratitude, he also performed a talent on the spot, reciting sounds and feelings, and singing sweetly … … "Thank you, uncles and aunts of Wenzhou Net and Pier Gate, for sending us ‘ Love ’ Moon cakes, you warm us with love, and let us know that in the new semester, we should be inspirational to be strong in life and study. " Xiao Shao said with a smile.

Xiao Xiang, 12, told reporters that this Mid-Autumn Festival will be spent with his family this year. "Generally, during the holidays, my family will take me home. The happiest thing is to be with my family and classmates."

Reporter’s Note: Children pass me positive energy.

In the corridor outside the classroom, several blind children helped each other and played around, gradually disappearing into my sight. Walking out of the teaching building, I looked up at the blue sky and white clouds, and my ears echoed with the laughter of blind children, and my mood suddenly became clear. Maybe I can’t read their inner world from their out-of-focus eyes, but I can hear their grateful hearts in their voices and see their happy mood from their raised corners of the mouth. In this interview, the same children told me what optimism and strength are.
