Realizing the transformation of internet of things based on LoRa and AI technology can reduce the cost and increase the efficiency of building management by 20%
Under the pressure of the global economy, various solutions to reduce costs and increase efficiency have become the focus of most enterprises at present. Carbon emission restrictions and environmental protection requirements are also increasing day by day. Therefore, it has become the primary task for enterprises to realize efficient and sustainable operation and management through the transformation and deployment of energy and intelligent solutions through IoT (Internet of Things).

Semtech LoRa 10th Anniversary Media Exchange MeetingMike Rodensky, Senior Vice President of Global Sales of Semtech, shared the progress of LoRa’s global deployment.
Tianji. com was fortunate to be invited to participate in the 10th anniversary media exchange meeting of Semtech LoRa. As one of the low-power WAN communication technologies with excellent development prospects, LoRa is popular in many enterprises’ Internet of Things transformation schemes. Therefore, we communicated with Gan Quan, director of market strategy of China LoRa of Semtech, and Zheng Yuanrui, deputy general manager of Semtech partner Xingzong IOT, on relevant landing cases and actual effects.

Mr. Gan Quan, Director of Market Strategy, LoRa, Semtech China.
Most first-tier and second-tier cities and provincial capitals have some large-scale science parks and large office clusters due to industrial chain-related reasons. These areas are not only crowded with people, but also the normal overtime work keeps the energy consumption of buildings at a high level. For these parks and building clusters, firstly, the park area is large, and hundreds or more sensors need to be deployed in the building to reach the level of intelligence. In addition to the cost of a single device, the deployment cost, maintenance frequency, and the related situation of maintenance personnel need to be considered. At present, the gross profit margin of China property management enterprises is generally around 20%-30%, and the equipment maintenance mainly depends on the support of traditional electricians. The growth of traditional profit model is weak and the operating cost continues to rise. It is urgent to find new growth points and optimize the original model. So how should they choose their Internet of Things transformation scheme?

Zheng yuanrui, deputy general manager of xingzong IOT
LoRa and NB-IoT are popular Internet of Things technologies at present. LoRa has the characteristics of ultra-low power consumption, anti-interference ability, low cost, strong wall penetration ability, flexible deployment and wide coverage distance, and is relatively more suitable for scenes such as parks and building clusters. Low power consumption can make the equipment work continuously for many years according to the purpose (the theoretical service life can be as long as 10 years), greatly reducing the operation and maintenance cost; Through-wall ability and anti-interference ability can ensure the accuracy and transmission stability of data. For parks and building clusters that need to deploy hundreds of devices, LoRa has the advantages of low equipment cost, wider coverage distance of a single gateway, flexible networking, easy deployment and simple management. Property management enterprises do not need expensive construction workers to deploy and highly skilled technicians to manage, which can well meet the requirements of property management enterprises for budget and operation and maintenance.
In recent years, Semtech has maintained active cooperation with domestic partners in LoRa Ecosphere, supporting them to develop a number of smart building application cases. Sensors, controllers and gateways based on LoRa and LoRaWAN are installed in corresponding positions in industrial parks, campuses, nursing homes and office buildings according to actual needs, so as to manage and control people, environment, equipment and facilities in real time and visually.
What changes can be brought about after the actual deployment of LoRa? Let’s take a look at some landing cases.

"Every year, the whole system can save tens of millions of RMB in electricity bills." Mr. Gan Quan, Marketing Strategy Director of China LoRa of Semtech, shared the case of Shenzhen Kexing Science Park in the application scenario of smart buildings. According to the reporter’s understanding, Shenzhen Kexing Science Park is located in the core of Shenzhen Nanshan New Industrial Park, with a construction area of 230,000 m, more than 50 listed companies have settled in, with 50,000 employees and air conditioning running 24 hours a day. By deploying LoRa technology in the refrigeration management system in the building of Kexing Science and Technology Park, it can be judged whether there are people in different areas and whether it will rain tomorrow, whether it will go to work tomorrow, etc., and then the temperature and switch of the air conditioner will be adjusted by automatic AI technology.
Shenzhen Kexing Science Park is a good case. As a communication technology, LoRa combined with AI technology can bring significant cost reduction and efficiency improvement. Although the relative cost of deploying LoRa technology is lower, we want to know more specific data and cost reduction ratio. Mr. Zheng Yuanrui, the deputy general manager of Semtech’s partner, Xingzong IOT, shared a more specific deployment case with us.

Mr. Zheng Yuanrui shared a case of a smart building in Canada. Because Canada is located in the sub-cold zone, the heating and ventilation part consumes the most energy in the building environment, while heating consumes more energy than cooling. After optimization, the Internet of Things with LoRa technology can not only automatically turn on and off the air conditioner at the point of arrival, but also regulate the temperature of the whole building at night through intelligent algorithms, and store heat in advance to stagger the peak electricity consumption (Canada adopts peak-valley time-of-use electricity price); Take air at night, because the air cleanliness is the highest at night. Through a series of deployment and intelligence, it can save 20-30% in energy consumption and operation and maintenance personnel. There is a project in Canada where dozens of buildings are deployed. According to customer feedback, the annual electricity bill can be saved by 1 million Canadian dollars, which is equivalent to about 5 million RMB. It is very obvious to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
In China, the IoT product scheme based on LoRa technology of Star Vertical IoT continues to reduce costs and increase efficiency for smart buildings. For example, Shenzhen Fiyta Building and Xianjian Science and Technology Building use products such as sensors, base station gateways and intelligent terminals based on LoRaWAN, and realize intelligent transformation and upgrading of office space equipment and energy management, environmental management and space management. Specifically, the scheme realizes the intelligent control of lighting and the monitoring of electrical appliances, effectively saving electric energy; Through remote batch management of curtains, lighting and other equipment, the labor cost of switching one by one is reduced; Real-time monitoring of environmental parameters has created a more comfortable office environment; By monitoring the occupancy of the conference room in real time, the utilization rate of the conference room can be effectively improved and the efficient management of the conference room can be realized.

In the general direction of reducing costs and increasing efficiency and carbon neutrality, AIoT will become a trend. For many property management enterprises, LoRa technology with low cost, flexible deployment and mature stability is a good solution, which can not only bring remarkable results of reducing costs and increasing efficiency, but also bring new growth mode and better management efficiency to property management enterprises and better user experience with the transformation of digital Internet of Things.
In 2022, the Satellite Federation of Things launched a 5G AIoT HD network camera, which has a built-in 5G module and a gateway module connected by LoRaWAN. It can wirelessly transmit video data through the 5G network without deploying complex cables and optical fibers, and quickly dock terminal equipment. It can be combined with indoor environmental sensors, intelligent switches, one-button alarms and fire safety sensors to provide people with safe and comfortable places, reduce operating costs and improve management efficiency. It is understood that since its launch, the solution has also received positive response in the market.
As a global manufacturing center with a large number of R&D enterprises, a large number of parks need to be transformed by the Internet of Things, and property management enterprises also need to find new growth points. China property management institute predicts that the industry scale is expected to exceed 3.2 trillion yuan in 2030, which will be a huge market and a huge business opportunity for Semtech and LoRa industrial chain enterprises.
