Yuan Wah, the original "charterer": Bruce Lee regarded him as a good brother, and Stephen Chow took him to the middle age.

Looking at the whole entertainment industry, not many people can get Stephen Chow’s praise, and even fewer can get "praise".

After filming Kung Fu, Stephen Chow commented on a big brother in the film: "He is a professional actor, very professional, and definitely worthy of the name of’ playing bones’!"

The person who was praised by Stephen Chow was Yuan Wah, the actor of "charterer". In fact, before this, the two had already cooperated in films such as Comic Veyron and Descendants of Dragons. Yuan Wah was regarded as Stephen Chow’s predecessor, and could even be called a teacher.

However, the film and television rivers and lakes are comparable to the real society. Some people are destined to be the leading role all their lives, while others can only be the supporting role all their lives.

Obviously, Yuan Wah belongs to the latter.

But I have to say that his life is full of legends. Even if he plays a supporting role all his life, he is among the "golden supporting roles".

In particular, he played the villain in the kung fu film, and his acting skills reached the king’s position.

However, why didn’t he get along with Jackie Chan and Sammo Hung?

01

In 1952, Yuan Wah was born into a poor family in Hong Kong, formerly known as Rong Zhi, also known as Rong Jizhi.

As children, the Yuan Wah family lived in the "wooden house area" with the worst environment in Hong Kong, and they were struggling financially.

In order to learn a skill, Yuan Wah was sent by his father to the "China Theatre Research Institute" run by Yu Zhanyuan, a famous Peking Opera actress.

Since then, Yuan Wah and Yuan Long (Sammo Hung), Yuan Lou (Jackie Chan), Yuan Biao (Xia Lingzhen), Yuan Kui (Yin Yuankui), Yuan Wu (Zhou Yuanjun), Thai and others have formed the "Seven Little Fucks", and he ranks the second.

In front of Yuan Wah, there is actually a teacher elder sister, who is Yuan Qiu, who plays the role of "the chartered woman" in Kung Fu.

During his apprenticeship, Yuan Wah was different from other well-off "naughty eggs" such as Sammo Hung and Jackie Chan. He was poor since childhood, so he developed a low-key character of inferiority and liked to be alone.

When other disciples are eating snacks and having fun, he always secretly hides aside to practice, hoping to exchange sweat for a better future.

Many years later, Yuan Qiu recalled in the program: "Yuan Wah was really different at that time. We gave him snacks and he never asked for them! After entering the entertainment industry, he dared to take any dangerous scenes and suffered countless injuries. "

Yu Zhanyuan’s apprenticeship was harsh, ranging from scolding to starting work, and he often beat his disciples who made mistakes.

It is reported that a master elder brother, Sammo Hung, cut class and Yuan Kui, deliberately failed to report the information, and as a result, he was whipped 70 times by Master.

Since then, Sammo Hung has taken care of Yuan Wah everywhere, and his feelings have been maintained to this day.

As the saying goes: the sword front comes from sharpening, and the plum blossom fragrance comes from bitter cold!

With persistent hard work, Yuan Wah became the recognized "forbidden kingdom" among the Seven Little Blessings, especially the best somersault.

02

In the mid-1960s, under the guidance of Zhang Che and Hu Jinquan, Shaw made films such as come drink with me and One-armed Knife, which set off a frenzy of martial arts films.

At this time, there was no market for traditional Chinese opera, and Yu Zhanyuan was at a loss to dissolve the troupe. Since then, Qi Xiaofu has made another living.

In the early 1970s, Zou Wenhuai and others set up Jiahe Film Industry, and took Bruce Lee, a kung fu superstar, under his command, forming a hegemony situation with Shaw.

Under the leadership of Sammo Hung, several other disciples joined Jiahe, and Yuan Wah also started his walk-on career.

In 1972, in the action film Jingwumen starring Bruce Lee, Yuan Wah played an arrogant foreign warrior, and was beaten up by Zhen Chen.

Have to say, at that time, Yuan Wah was too thin. Although his face was chiseled, he couldn’t match the word "handsome boy". Judging from the whole facial expression, it is even full of "bad looks".

In the entertainment circle where Yan value is king, his play path is doomed not to be too wide, and he has no chance with the protagonist.

Fortunately, Yuan Wah’s figure is very similar to Bruce Lee’s, and with his excellent somersault, he won the appreciation of Bruce Lee, and played his "body double" for many times, completing many gorgeous movements.

Attentive audience will find that in the contest segment of enter the dragon in 1973, Yuan Wah also appeared as Bruce Lee body double, only to see that after he completed a super high-altitude flip, he landed steadily, which was perfect.

Yuan Wah was deeply appreciated by Bruce Lee, as well as Ching-Ying Lam, whose martial arts attainments are quite high.

It is said that if these two people are not here, Bruce Lee will not turn on the phone.

Bruce Lee once promised Yuan Wah and Ching-Ying Lam that he would take them to Hollywood for development in the near future, and work together to travel abroad.

Sadly, on January 20th of the same year, Bruce Lee died suddenly at his girlfriend Ding Pei’s home.

With the collapse of the biggest backer, Yuan Wah’s trip to Hollywood became a dream.

03

Without being the master, Jiahe urgently needs to build a new star to take its place. Sammo Hung has the deepest qualifications and naturally becomes the best candidate.

And he took a group of brothers who were willing to fight and fight with him, and "Hongjiaban" came into being.

In the following years, Yuan Wah continued to play a "walk-on" and starred in dozens of kung fu films, such as The Picture of the Martyr, Sha Dan Ying and Jianghu Children, but he often failed to get a straight face.

But even so, he must not be busy for his life.

It was not until 1978, in the martial arts film The Legend of Lu Xiaofeng, directed by Billy Tang, that Yuan Wah officially had a role name, in which he played the role of the villain "Black Impermanence".

In the same year’s martial arts film "The Dragon Slayer", he was given another small role, playing the role of "Leng Qian", a five-person Zoroastrianism with few scenes.

In 1985, Ching-Ying Lam officially opened the dynasty era of comedy and horror films with a film "Mr. Zombie", which made Siu-ho Chin "Anthony Wong" and Xu Guanying "literary talent" popular.

What few people know is that the "zombie Boss" in the film is exactly what Yuan Wah did at the expense of self-destruction.

During the filming, due to the rush of the crew and the difficulty of painting zombie makeup, Yuan Wah kept his makeup on for several days in order to cooperate with his work until he finished his due scene.

Because he often plays the faceless body double or a walk-on, his colleagues also nicknamed Yuan Wah "The Shadow Queen", which sounds humorous, but in fact it is full of satire.

Later, in Uncle Zombie, Yuan Wah’s "Wu Shilang" was also full of laughter.

I don’t know how many people burst into tears when I saw his wonderful performance after being bitten into a zombie.

No matter how cruel life is to me, I treat life like first love!

Along the way, Yuan Wah has always adhered to the work style of "working hard without complaining" and won unanimous praise from many directors.

Because of this, although he didn’t get the chance to be a leading role or even a supporting role, he never lacked a drama contract.

For the second teacher younger brother Yuan Wah, Sammo Hung has never forgotten him, but has been waiting for the right opportunity.

In 1987, Boss Hong was preparing an action film "eastern condors", which included Yuan Biao, Ching-Ying Lam, Yuan Kui, Haing S. Ngor, Gao Lihong, etc. Even Yuan Heping, the "first Chinese martial arts finger", made a guest appearance in the film.

In this heavyweight director and Wuzhi’s "Playing Hi" work, Yuan Wah officially appeared in public, and his role as the villain "General" was a must, and his acting skills and kung fu were unforgettable.

Especially when his evil spirit smiles, he knows that something bad is happening, which makes people shudder.

The following year, in The Flying Dragon, starring Jackie Chan, Sammo Hung and Yuan Biao, Yuan Wah once again shouldered the role of villain and played the role of "Hua Xin Wu". Even Zhou Bili and Gao Fei, two martial arts masters, could only be his wannabe.

In "Frozen Chivalrous Man" starring Yuan Biao, Yuan Wah became the No.2 male, playing "Phoenix III" with vicious heart and doing all kinds of evil, and fighting with "Fang Shouzheng" played by Yuan Biao from the Ming Dynasty to the present, which is a model of time-travel films.

It is worth mentioning that many years later, Frozen: The Gate of Rebirth, which was co-produced by Donnie Yen and Wang Baoqiang, was like a copy of Frozen Wonder Man, which was criticized by many fans.

04

Going around, time came to the 1990 s.

In 1991, Li Xiuxian directed the New Year film "Descendants of the Dragon" and invited Stephen Chow and Yuan Wah to play "Father and Son".

In this comedy full of elements, Yuan Wah changed the previous villain style, and played "Zhou Feihong" with his son "Zhou Xiaolong", which made no sense and won the audience’s laughter.

Through this film, the young Stephen Chow recognized the acting master, and Yuan Wah, who is nearly puzzled, also affirmed the rapid growth of "Zhou Xingxing".

In the same year, Yuan Wah returned to the villain’s identity in the film "Love Saint". Although the force value was overwhelming, it was inevitable that he was biased by Stephen Chow.

The following year, in "Comic Veyron", Yuan Wah played the role of "Zheng Hengdao", which made people laugh.

In addition to playing a brilliant role in the film field, Yuan Wah is also the "treasure of town drama" in many TV series.

For example, in TVB classic drama "Zombie Fuxing", he was the famous demon-catching Tianshi "Zhuang Tian" in the late Qing Dynasty;

In the costume martial arts drama "july rhapsody Fighting Kung Fu", he plays "Fang Tianlong", the only son of the richest man in Foshan Town;

In the fashion drama "The Spark of Love", he became a judo master "Luo Bin" …

For many viewers, the "Yan Chixia" played by Wu Ma is a classic screen image that can’t be surpassed. He has high magic skills, unrestrained personality, and some childlike innocence, and occasionally quarrels with demons.

However, if you watch the Chen Xiaodong version of the TV series Ghost Story, you will also be deeply impressed by Yan Chixia played by Yuan Wah.

In the middle and late 1990s, with the rise of the mainland film and television industry and the shoddy production of Hong Kong film and television, it has been difficult for "Oriental Hollywood" to reproduce its former glory.

During this period, many Hong Kong artists once reached the point where there was no drama to shoot, so they had to set their sights on the mainland film and television circle.

As an actor of the older generation, and a supporting actor who mainly plays kung fu movies, Yuan Wah naturally failed to escape the tragic fate of being abandoned by the times.

For a long time, although Yuan Wah made films such as leopard hunting, The Ghost, Mr. Corpse, his reputation was poor, and the box office was even worse.

In an interview, he also said bluntly: "It would be good for an old actor like us to have a play."

Say this, I can see that Yuan Wah is lost. Because the era of kung fu films belonging to them is long gone.

In the past, Yuan Wah, who has made more than 100 films, has never won a trophy, although his acting skills have been recognized by the audience, which is a great regret in his acting career and is also a "disappointment" for fans.

05

After the Millennium, it has become an extravagant hope to see another high-quality Hong Kong film.

In half a century, if there is no "counterattack", Yuan Wah’s acting career may be silent from now on.

One day in 2004, Yuan Wah received a phone call from the cast of Kung Fu.

At the other end of the phone, the staff respectfully said, "The elder, entrusted by boss Zhou, invited you to play."

Telephone side, Yuan Wah nodded without hesitation.

I still remember that Stephen Chow was a young guy, and now he has become a "Star Master". Since he does not forget the old love, he naturally does not shirk it.

In "Kung Fu", there are not many scenes of Yuan Wah.

But it is these few scenes that he reminds everyone of the "charterer" who is a master of seclusion, loves to take advantage of small things, and even "buck teeth" is not spared.

With this film, Yuan Wah won three awards in one fell swoop, namely, Best Male Matching in the Academy Award, Best Male Matching in the Golden Bauhinia Award and Best Actor in the Global Chinese Golden Art Award, which is comparable to "an old tree sprouting new shoots".

It was also through Kung Fu that Yuan Wah successfully entered the mainland film and television circle, and the film was received with a soft hand.

In the following years, he appeared in many film and television dramas, such as Contract Lover, City Alert, Lower Nanyang, Chinatown Detective 2, etc.

Admirable, although he was injured when he was young, he still insisted on filming without body double, and even dangerous action scenes were done by himself.

Now, the elder has arrived in seventy years of age, and his skill is not as vigorous as that of the past.

When interviewed, whenever asked about the legendary past of "falling to the king", he replied with a smile: "Lian Po is too old to turn over."

When it comes to Yuan Wah’s marriage, many friends will mistakenly think that his wife is Yuan Qiu, because they created a funny and harmonious "condor hero" in Kung Fu.

In fact, Yuan Wah’s wife is an outsider named Evina, who settled in Canada in her early years, gave birth to a son and a daughter, and her children have married.

In the film and television Jianghu, Yuan Wah played many chilling villains.

In real life, he is an out-and-out "ear rake" and "henpecked".

Knowing that the entertainment circle is a wrong place, Yuan Wah kept his mouth shut in order not to disturb his family. Even if he was pressed by the media, he only said a few words.

Such a "low-key and high-energy" old actor who loves his family and acting career, I believe fans will always remember him!
