The water quality of the exit section of the main stream of the Yellow River has reached Grade II for 7 consecutive years.

　　In 2022, of the 74 state-controlled sections in Gansu Province, 71 were excellent in water quality (reaching or better than Grade III), accounting for 95.9%, and 2 were inferior to Grade V, accounting for 2.7%. Centralized drinking water sources at or above the county level all meet or are better than Class III water quality targets. The excellent proportion of water quality in 41 national examination sections of the Yellow River Basin reached 92.68%, and the water quality in the exit section of the main stream reached Grade II for seven consecutive years. The state-controlled sections of the rivers in the northwest and the Yangtze River basin all reach or are superior to Class II water bodies. From January to May, 2023, the average water quality of 69 of the 74 surface water sections controlled by the state in the province reached excellent (reaching or better than Grade III), and the proportion of excellent water sections was 93.2%, an increase of 1.3 percentage points over the same period of last year, and the proportion of inferior V water sections was 2.7%, which was the same as that of the same period of last year, and the water environment quality was further improved.

　　Gansu has formulated and promulgated the water ecological environment protection plan for key river basins. Establish and operate the working mechanism of water environment situation analysis, consultation and early warning supervision, and make monthly early warning notification to the cities and counties where the water environment quality deteriorates and fails to meet the standards and the sewage treatment facilities exceed the standard; On-site supervision and inspection of serious exceeding the standard, supervise and implement the measures of "investigation, measurement, tracing and treatment"; We will conduct interviews with the responsible cities and counties of the sections that have exceeded the standard for more than 3 months in a row, and carry out inspections according to procedures for those that have not been rectified after the interviews, and continue to promote the improvement of the water environment quality in the basin.

　　Gansu has also taken the lead in launching local legislation on ecological protection and investigation on pollution status in the Yellow River Basin, and basically found out the base of ecological environment and pollution status in Gansu section of the Yellow River Basin. The construction of centralized sewage treatment facilities has been completed in 30 provincial-level and above industrial parks along the Yellow River Basin, and 62 domestic sewage treatment plants have been built. The sewage treatment rate in cities and counties and the sludge harmless treatment and disposal rate in prefecture-level cities have reached 97%, 93% and 97% respectively. Complete the pollution control of nine tailings ponds in the Yellow River Basin. The "Huang Heqing Waste" campaign was implemented, and 125 problems were rectified.
