Kyodo News reported on July 1st local time that the Main Press Center (MPC) of the Tokyo Olympic Games started trial operation at Tokyo International Exhibition Center (Tokyo BIG SIGHT) in jiangdong district, Tokyo on the 1st. The main press center is located in the coastal area with many competition venues, and will become a media base at home and abroad during the Olympic Games. It is estimated that it can be used by up to 2,500 people in a single day.
The main news center will be officially opened on the 13th, providing 24-hour service, with facilities signs and counters inside. At present, the staff has begun to receive overseas media who arrived in advance. During the Olympic Games, the main press center will also be a place for the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the Olympic Organizing Committee to hold press conferences. The main news center also has a large-scale saliva sample collection area for journalists to receive regular nucleic acid testing, which is ready for the opening of the Olympic Games in an epidemic situation. In addition, the main news center also has an area to introduce the post-earthquake reconstruction of the Great East Japan Earthquake. There is also an International Broadcasting Center (IBC) in the Tokyo International Exhibition Center.
Due to epidemic prevention measures, the number of people related to the Olympic Games has been greatly reduced, and the number of media-related people from overseas who came to Japan has also been reduced from 8,400 planned before the Olympic Games was postponed to 4,600.
